My contribution to Scott Thomas’ assignment about portraiting is this image of a smiling girl.
The image was shot on a black background. I used two soft lights, one about 45 deg in front to her left and one about 90Â deg to her right.Â
The technical data are: Canon 7D with EF100mm f/2,8L Macro
Exposure:  ISO400, 1/125s, f/4.5
Raw processing: Capture One.
Cropping and jpeg processing: PS CS3
I can see you are a very good portrait-photographer, Carsten: This is a very fine portrait – you captured this girl and her smile so well!
Carsten, interesting light setting, I have to keep that in mind the next time. I like the dark background and you’ve captured her beautiful smile. 🙂
Absolutely beautiful ! both, the smiling girl and your portrait. Such great light on her face and hair.
It seems we all like smiling people. 🙂
Thanks for your comments. I really appreciate them.
I like the dark background – with the soft lighting it gives her hair a nice halo effect.
Thanks Jennifer.
I like the dark backgrounds too. You can add backlight to improve the halo effect. I didn’t – unfortunately.
What a nice, true looking smile you were able to capture!
I think she lost control for a moment. -Enough time to shoot this. Thanks Karma.
This is a wonderful portrait, I like the black background and lighting.
Thanks for your visit and comment Deanna.
Nice work, the lighting is very well done. Found you through Scott’s blog.

Welcome Mike, and thank you.
Scotts assignments are good for many things. Now I also found your interesting Alaska blog. Very beautiful landscapes. I’ll return to your blog many times.
